Planning to vote for Bernie Sanders?

heysawbones

I just saw another enthusiastic post going around, encouraging people to vote for the man, but missing an important fact.

Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton are both running as Democrats.

The party will use YOUR votes to decide how many Democratic Party delegates from your state go to the Democratic National Convention and vote on who represents the party in the general election (what this means varies by state; see this article for an explanation). This means that in order for you to see Bernie Sanders in the White House, you must see him beat Hillary Clinton at the DNC.

If you do not vote for Bernie Sanders in the primary, you will NOT be able to vote for him as president, because only one person will represent the Democratic Party. If you want to see Bernie Sanders in the White House, again, you cannot wait for the general election, because he will have been knocked out of the race.

There comes a time in the lives of the wise where the accumulation of knowledge appears as fruitless as the accumulation of material wealth and for the same reason. It will be taken from us through illness, old age and death.

What then?

There is but one answer. Knowledge alone cannot save us. Wisdom alone cannot save us. Worldly goods cannot save us. Nothing can save us from the inevitability of illness, old age and death.

Do we live for pleasure then? Do we engage in the Masque of Death. That is the party at the end of the world. Do we simply engage in as much pleasure as we can before death comes for us like the people of the Middle Ages did during the black plague? We do not because the pleasures of the senses grow dull very quickly.

What do we do?

We empty ourselves of desire. We empty ourselves of attachment. When we do this no spectre of death shall haunt us. No sense of the futility of life will plague us. We become as hard and pure as a diamond. Then we can smile at doom. We can smile at age. We can laugh at death and he, the old fellow, will laugh with us.
